PESHAWAR, 16 October: The death toll of Pakistani pilgrims in the Mina stampede during Hajj has mounted to 102.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has confirmed the death of 81 Pakistani pilgrims on its website. However, it has also received reports of death of 21 more Pakistani pilgrims. According to the website, 15 Pakistani pilgrims are still missing and search for them is under way at different hospitals in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Saudi government, 769 pilgrims lost their lives and 1,000 others sustained injures in the stampede in Mina during the ritual of hurling pebbles at the three pillars symbolising Shaitan (devil) during Hajj.
The Pakistan government had announced Rs500,000 compensation for the families of the pilgrims who lost their lives in the Mina stampede.
