PESHAWAR, 06 June: Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani has said a comprehensive policy is being chalked out for the welfare of transgender community in order to provide them employment and better health facilities, said a press release issued here on Monday
Speaking to a delegation of transvestite community here at Deputy Commissioner Office, he said that KP government is allocating budget for financial assistance of transvestite in the provincial fiscal budget, adding that first the exact number of transvestites population would be determined in the province and later a monthly stipend would announced for them.
He further said that a high level committee comprising Deputy Commissioner, Secretary Social Welfare, Secretary Technical Education and other high ranking officials would be constituted to solve the issue relating to transgender and form the policy in consultation with them.
Mushtaq Ghani further said that a suggestion to register the transvestite community with social welfare department and then constitution of an endowment fund for them is also being considered.
He assured the delegation that free of cost treatment and private rooms would be provided to them in all government hospital of the province, while alternate employment opportunities would also be explored.
Mushtaq said that protection of transvestite is the responsibility of the government and any lethargy in this regard would not be tolerated.
On the occasion, the delegation of transvestites demanded a residential colony, protection of lives, free of cost health facilities and employment opportunities for them.
The provincial government spokesman Mushtaq Ghani assured the delegation that the government would take every step for their welfare.
Earlier, Mushtaq Ghani and Deputy Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud expressed sorrow over the killing of a transvestite Alishah in Peshawar.
