GHALLANAI: In the first incident of polls-related violence, one person lost his life and three others were injured when political activists in Mohmand tribal district hurled stones at each other after exchanging hot words during a political gathering on Tuesday.
The administration of Mohmand district said the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), which has significant vote bank in erstwhile Fata, arranged a public meeting in Gadai Tangi area which was attended by the party activists and supporters in large number. After the end of the rally, two groups of Malik Rehmani Gul and Ghafoor indulged into an argument over the choice of political leaders. The argument turned violent when both the groups started pelting stones on each other.
One person, identified as Muhammad Shah, was killed on the spot, while Rehman Gul, Gulistan and Ghafoor sustained injuries in the stoning. The injured persons were taken to Khar Hospital in Bajaur tribal district.
The district administration arrested one suspect, Zewar and shifted him to Ghallanai Jail. It was the first incident of violence ahead of the 2018 general elections scheduled to be held on 25 July, 2018.
