PESHAWAR: Ten more educational institutions have been closed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) introduced by the provincial government to avoid the spread of coronavirus.
According to details issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), as many as 13 educational institutions have been closed in Pakistan during the last 24 hours. The closed institutions include 10 from KP and three from Sindh.
The KP Health Department said coronavirus cases have been reported from some educational institutions of the province after which it has recommended closure of these schools. Recommendation has been made to close some government schools in Peshawar, Tank and Upper Dir. The Health Department said as many as 1,236 samples were taken from different schools in 14 districts of KP on September 15 and 13 schoolteachers were diagnosed with coronavirus.
Two coronavirus cases have also been reported from a private school in Peshawar after which the Health Department has recommended closure of two schools for five days. Seven teachers in the said school have also been diagnosed with coronavirus and they have been advised to adopt quarantine at their homes.
Earlier on Thursday, 22 educational institutions in Pakistan were closed over violation of SOPs.
The closed educational institutions included 16 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, one from Islamabad and five from Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
In Sindh, the coronavirus test of eight staffers in two colleges in Matiari district came back as positive after which both the colleges were closed. Officials have asked parents to immediately consult doctors and inform the health department if their children show symptoms of coronavirus.
Ten employees of a school in Nowhsera were also diagnosed with coronavirus on Thursday. On Wednesday, the corona tests of seven teachers of a government school in Peshawar came back as positive.
Latest situation in KP
In KP, 57 new cases were confirmed on Thursday, taking the total to 37,242. “No new deaths were reported keeping the total at 1,257. 163 more patients recovered taking the total to 35,450. Active cases at 535. 2,395 tests conducted yesterday (Thursday),” the KP Health Department said in a tweet.
Although, coronavirus is on its way out in Pakistan, but still new cases are being reported on daily basis. Keeping in view the potential of the virus to strike back, the Pakistan government has not declared complete victory against it.
