DERA ISMAIL KHAN, 6 October: The administration of Dera Ismail Khan Jail has suspended 13 officials over absence from duty during Eidul Azha.
Jail Superintendent Binyamin Miankhel said the suspended officials include policemen and other jail staff members. He said the jail remains under the threat of militant attack every time. He said 350 prisoners, including militants and murderers, are imprisoned in the jail. Mr Miankhel said despite sensitive situation at the jail, 13 officials remained absent during Eid without any permission from the higher authorities due to which they have been suspended.
About 100 militants attacked the DI Khan Jail two years ago and set free 245 prisoners, including militants. At least 40 policemen were dismissed after the DI Khan jailbreak in 2013 during which at least 12 people were killed.
