MARDAN: Thirteen students sustained injuries in a collision between a car and two rickshaws in Mardan on Wednesday.

Police said a car collided with two rickshaws coming from the opposite direction near Rustam in the morning due to which 13 students of different schools sitting in two rickshaws and a driver sustained injuries. The injured students and driver were taken to a local hospital and were discharged after treatment.

The car driver escaped from the scene after the incident. Police have initiated search for the car driver.

Alleged fraudsters arrested

A suspect has been arrested in Mardan over charges of deceiving people in the name of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and receiving Rs4.5 million from them.

The accused, Taimoor, who was an assistant complaint officer in the BISP, allegedly took money from 1,800 women on promise of benefiting them from the BISP funds. He was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Wing Peshawar on complaints of the affectees.

The FIA has also arrested an accused, Ali Rehman in a bank fraud case in Swat. The accused was facing charges of bank fraud of over Rs1 billion.

Blast in Mohmand

On Tuesday, a car was damaged in a roadside blast in Ambar tehsil of Mohmand tribal district.

Local sources said some local traders were travelling in a car when it hit an improvised explosive device. The car was damaged in the blast, however, the traders remained safe.

The security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation in the adjoining areas. However, no one was arrested. The district administration launched investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, power supply remained disconnected in North Waziristan tribal district for second consecutive day on Wednesday.

Local people said power supply was suspended on Tuesday in the whole tribal district which was not restored even on Wednesday. They said the people were facing a lot of difficulties due to lack of electricity in this extreme cold weather. They said no water was available in mosques and in the night they even face more difficulties as there is no light in the homes. They demanded the concerned authorities to take notice of the matter.
