PESHAWAR, November 1: Four children have been diagnosed with poliovirus in the country, raising the total number of cases to 235 in the country this year.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) says two latest victims hail from North Waziristan and the other two from Balochistan province.
The maximum cases of polio, 152, have been reported from the tribal belt, and 48 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Health professionals say that due to poor law and order situation, the polio campaign has been disrupted and can’t be carried out efficiently in various areas. They say many children got affected by the poliovirus even after being vaccinated last year.
There have been reports in Pakistani media that substandard polio drops have been mixed up with vaccines.
Recently, the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to inject polio drops via syringes in the provincial capital and Bannu because health officials say injections are more effective than oral drops.
