25 killed as Ghafoor Haidri’s convoy hit by suicide bomber in Mastung

QUETTA, 12 May: At least 25 people were killed and 35 others including Senate’s Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri injured when his convoy came under attack in Mastung district of Balochistan on Friday, police said.

According to District Police Officer, Mastung, Ghazanfar Ali, Maulana Haidri was on his way back to hometown after attending a public meeting when his convoy was targeted.

The police officer said that the preliminary assessments suggested that it was a suicide attack.

He added that Maulana Ghafoor Haidri also received minor injuries whereas his driver was killed in the blast.

The Maulana, after the attack, told a private TV channel that his alive and safe. He added that he received some minor injuries because he was hit by the broken pieces of windscreen.

The injured persons have been evacuated to nearby hospital in Mastung whereas the serious injured are shifted to Quetta. The local administration has declared emergency in Quetta and Mastung hospitals.

Meanwhile, officials of law enforcement agencies reached the spot soon after the incident and cordoned the area. They also started a search operation in the vicinity.
