Adviser to CM on Culture and Tourism Amjad Afridi giving a cheque of Rs200,000 to Wagma. - TNN

PESHAWAR, 20 October: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has given Rs0.2 million aid to ailing Pashto folk singer Wagma for her treatment against stomach cancer.

Adviser to KP Chief Minister on Culture and Tourism Amjad Afridi visited Lady Reading Hospital on Monday to inquire about the health of Wagma and gave her a cheque of Rs0.2 million for medical treatment.  Mr Afridi  lauded Wagma’s services for Pashto language and directed the doctors to provide her best health services. He said artists are an asset to the society and the government will take care of them. He said he will also talk to Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak for treatment of Wagma at Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital.

He revealed the KP government would distribute Rs5 million among 114 poets of the province today (Tuesday).

Earlier, in an interview with TNN on Sunday, Wagma had appealed to the provincial and federal governments to extend financial support to her for her treatment against cancer.
