GHALLANAI: Three cases were filed in the Child Protection Court in Mohmand tribal district on first day of its inauguration on Saturday.

The first ever Child Protection Court in merged tribal districts was inaugurated in Mohmand for which a ceremony was arranged at Ghallanai District and Sessions Court. Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth addressed the inauguration ceremony through video link.

The Child Protection Court in Mohmand is the first in merged districts and fourth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The chief justice said in his address that providing justice to children and their affected families is among the top priorities of the judiciary. He said that according to Child Protection Act, 2017, the establishment of a Child Protection Court is mandatory in every district. He said four such courts have been established in KP and soon every district of the province will have such child court.

Additional Sessions Judge Wali Muhammad was given additional charge of the newly established Child Protection Court. Three cases were filed in the court on the very first day of its inauguration. In a case, the statements of three witnesses were also recorded.

The Child Protection Courts are mandated to resolve cases about children within three months.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Amin Kundi, Deputy Commissioner Mohmand Muhammad Iftikhar Alam, Additional and Sessions Judge Wali Muhammad, Additional and Sessions Judge Mohib Jan, Judicial Magistrate Ziaul Hassan, Superintendent Sessions Judge Muhammad Tayyeb, DHO Muhammad Hayat Khan Afridi, Education Officer Jaddi Khan, MS Saminullah, Mohmand Bar Association President Gul Rehman, General Secretary Raza Khan, President Mohmand Press Club Gul Muhammad and others.

The senior civil judge and other judges on the occasion unveiled the plaque of the newly established court.

In February this year, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet approved establishment of child protection courts on divisional level. Approval was also given for appointment of judges for the child protection courts.

On October 05 last year, PHC Chief Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth inaugurated a child protection court in Mardan district. The first child court of KP was established in Peshawar in March last year.
