KHAR: Three persons were injured in Charmang tehsil of Bajaur tribal district in firing from Afghan side on Sunday.
The local administration said three persons were busy in labour in Hilalkhel area near the border when they came under gun attack from across the border. The three labourers sustained injuries in the firing. They were provided first aid by the Frontier Corps personnel and then they were shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar.
Cross border attacks happen from Afghan side from time to time which result in casualties on Pakistan side.
The cross border attack in Bajaur happened exactly a month after a person was killed and a girl was injured after a mortar shell fired from Afghan side landed in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur.
The mortar shell was fired from Kunar province of Afghanistan which landed in a populated area in Gardao village, situated near the border. Police said a mortar shell landed on a house which killed a local person, Bakhtullah, while an eight-year-old girl, Rashida Bibi, was injured.
Several cattle were also killed in the blast of mortar shell.
The local Tarkhani and Utmankhel tribes of Bajaur strongly condemned mortar attack in the area and demanded the Afghan government to make sure that its land is not used against Pakistan in future. It was not clear whether the mortar shell was fired by militants or the Afghan security forces. No one claimed responsibility for the incident.
The Pakistan government raises the issue with Afghan officials from time to time and urges them to ensure no use of their land for any subversive act in Pakistan. The Pakistan government is also erecting a long fence on the Pak-Afghan border to stop cross border attacks. The fencing of the border proved fruitful as such attacks have reduced considerably.
On May 22, one person died, while his brother was injured in a blast in Bajaur.
The blast happened in Hilalkhel area of Charmang in Nawagai tehsil. One person, identified as Zakirullah died in the blast, while his brother Saeedullah was injured. The body and the injured were shifted to hospital. No one claimed responsibility for the blast.
