PESHAWAR: Three soldiers, including an officer, embraced martyrdom and four others were injured when they were attacked with an improvised explosive device (IED) in North Waziristan tribal district on Thursday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists had planted a bomb at the roadside which exploded on the security forces providing security at a road construction site in Shaga Nishpa area in Ghariom sector in North Waziristan. There soldiers, including Lieutenant Nasir Hussain Khalid, 23, resident of Muzaffarabad, Naik Muhammad Imran, 33, married, resident of Faisalabad, and Sepoy Usman Akhtar, 30, resident of Rawalpindi, embraced martyrdom, while four others sustained injuries.
The security forces cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation. However, there was no word about any arrest.
Militants were driven out from the tribal districts in military operations, but still terrorists sometimes attack the security forces from their leftover hideouts. The security forces also conduct intelligence-based operations (IBOs) after receiving credible information about presence of militants to ward off any threat of attacks.
On August 30, three soldiers were martyred and four others were injured in firing on the security forces by terrorists during a search operation in South Waziristan tribal district.
According to ISPR, terrorists opened fire on the security forces during a search operation in which three soldiers were martyred.
On August 25, the security forces foiled an attack of terrorists in Ladha area of South Waziristan and killed one terrorist.
On August 21, the security forces and police in their joint action in South Waziristan foiled a terrorist plot and recovered two suicide jackets.
On August 09, a soldier was injured in a remote control bomb blast in North Waziristan tribal district.
Official sources said a soldier, Asif, was fetching water from a stream in Shani area of Dattakhel tehsil when a remote control bomb exploded on him.
On July 23, one soldier was martyred and three others were injured in a remote control blast on a vehicle of the security forces in Mir Ali sub-division of North Waziristan.
On July 12, four soldiers were martyred and three others were injured in a clash with the security forces in North Waziristan. The ISPR said four terrorists were also killed in the clash.
