JAMRUD, 24 August: Two newly constructed link bridges have been opened for traffic in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency.
Member of National Assembly (MNA) Alhaaj Shah Jee Gul on Tuesday inaugurated the two bridges in Ghundi and Ali Masjid area with cots of Rs 38 million and Rs 40 million respectively. Hundreds of people are expected to use the two link bridges for transportation on daily basis.
The local people have lauded the construction of two bridges in Jamrud and termed it key to the progress and development of the region. Bismillah Jan, a local resident of Ali Masjid, told TNN that previously a number of people and vehicles have been washed away by flash floods in the stream in Ali Masjid locality.
Besides, people could not travel through the stream after 8 pm in the night due to fear of robbery and target killing, he said adding at times of deliveries, pregnant women and their relative would prefer to stay at home instead of going to hospitals through the stream. “Now with the constriction of bridge over the stream, we feel protected from robbers and flash floods while traveling in dark” he explained.
Addressing the opening ceremonies of the two bridges, Shah Jee claimed that records of development schemes had been completed in his constituency since he had become MNA. Furthermore, he said that a number of construction works on roads, tube wells, electricity and bridges were underway that would bring progress and prosperity to the region
