PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has closed five more educational institutions after emergence of coronavirus cases in government and private schools.
The educational institutions which have been closed include four government schools and one private school.
KP Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Shahram Khan Tarakai has directed all the teachers to ensure social distancing and observance of other standard operating procedures (SOPs) like handwashing, wearing of facemasks etc. in their schools. He said the schools violating the SOPs will be closed.
Meanwhile, Shahram Khan Tarakai visited Government Higher Secondary School Dagai, Swabi, to check implementation of the coronavirus SOPs. The minister expressed satisfaction over the precautionary measures and said everyone should help the government in implementation of the SOPs to avoid the spread of the virus.
On September 29, coronavirus cases surfaced in three schools in Lakki Marwat where teachers and students were infected.
Focal person for coronavirus said the coronavirus tests of the principal and a teacher of Government Higher Secondary School Tajazai came back as positive. A female teacher of Government Girls High School Baistkhel and a student from Government High School Ahmedkhel had also contracted coronavirus.
Government Girls High School Baistkhel was closed for five days after the teacher was diagnosed with coronavirus, while the principal’s office and affected classes in other schools were closed.
On September 26, two schools were sealed completely, while another school was closed partially in Hangu after coronavirus tests of some teachers and students came back as positive.
Deputy Commissioner Hangu Mansoor Arshid said one teacher, principal and three students of Government Higher Secondary School Block Ibrahimzai were diagnosed with coronavirus after which the school was closed immediately and the infected teachers and students were asked to quarantine themselves.
In Government High School No. 2, a student of class 10-B contracted coronavirus after which only his class was closed.
On September 17, 10 employees of a school in Nowshera were diagnosed with coronavirus.
A day earlier, seven teachers of a government school in Peshawar were diagnosed with coronavirus.
The affected teachers belonged to the Government Higher Secondary School No. 1 Peshawar Cantt.
The emergence of new coronavirus cases shows the threat still persists.
