PESHAWAR, 23 August: The ministry of State and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) has said that as many as 550 Afghan families have so far repatriated to Afghanistan since June after their stay in Pakistan was extended till the end of this year.
The ministry said in a statement that UNHCR gives $ 400 cash while World Food Program gives food items to each Afghan national repatriating to Afghanistan.
It added that giving thumb impression through bio-metric system has been made mandatory for repatriating Afghan refugees to ensure they do not come back to Pakistan.
According to UNHCR statistics, more than 58,000 Afghan refugees have so far returned to their country since January this year.
