JAMRUD, October 31: The political authorities have arrested 75 tribesmen under the Collective Responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) for their failure to ensure peace and state writ in their area.
Administrating officials say they have arrested the suspects from the areas of Chota Neher checkpost, Takhta Baig checkpost, ShahKas and Ghareeza areas. Those detained also include residents of Abdalkhel, Sikanderkhel, Mandokhel and Sher Khan.
Mr Roshan Khan, the assistant political agent, says the authorities took action after several cases of murder took place in the region during the last several days.
On the other hand, Mr Faizullah Jan, head of the Kokikhel tribe, has criticised this action and asked the political authorities to release the arrested people.
The FCR consists of a special set of laws that have been implemented in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of north-western Pakistan. The Collective Responsibility clause authorises the tribal authorities to punish a whole tribe as a result of the behaviour or crime of one or more other individuals.
