PESHAWAR: Eight people died and several others were injured in rain-related incidents in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

In Malakand, four people of a family died when roof of their house collapsed on Friday night. TNN correspondent reported that the roof of Muhammad Ghani’s house in Ara Khan Dheri, Sakhakot, collapsed due to heavy rain. The wife of Muhammad Ghani, son Yasin, and two daughters, three-year-old Zenab and seven-year-old Alishba, died in the incident.

Local sources said the roof of a room collapsed when the family members were asleep. Rescue personnel with the help of local people retrieved the bodies and shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Dargai.

In Lower Dir, a house collapsed due to land sliding after heavy rain which killed two girls. The incident happened in Dapur area of Maidan tehsil. The land sliding happened due to heavy rain in the area.

In Dir Upper, the roof of a house collapsed in Jelar area of Wari tehsil in which a girl lost her life and another was injured. The injured girl was shifted to Wari Hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.

Another roof collapse incident happened in Saeedabad area of Khar tehsil in Bajaur tribal district. One person, Fazle Wahid, died in the roof collapse, while two girls, Sawala and Tanzeela, and a woman were injured.

The area people retrieved the body and the injured on self-help basis. The injured persons were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Khar.

Driver killed as bridge collapses in Chitral

A driver of a dumper died when a bridge collapsed and the vehicle fell into a nullah in Upper Chitral on Saturday.

Police said a dumper was crossing a wooden bridge in Astaro area in Torkhao when it collapsed and the vehicle fell into the nullah. The driver, Iftikhar Ahmed, died on the spot in the incident.

The body of the driver was handed over to his family from Lower Dir after necessary formalities at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Booni.

Police said the dumper was not loaded at the time of the accident. Local sources said the wooden bridge was in poor condition and no steps were taken by the relevant department for its repair.
