DERA ISMAIL KHAN: After Peshawar and Mardan, eight educational institutions have been closed in Dera Ismail Khan as some teachers and other staff members were diagnosed with coronavirus.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Umair said the coronavirus test of Muhammad Zaman, a teacher at Government High School Kachi Painda Khan, came back as positive on September 17 after which the school was closed by the district administration on the recommendations of the Health Department. The school has been closed for an indefinite period.

The deputy commissioner said while talking to media persons that tests of nine people have come back as positive in the educational institutions of Dera Ismail Khan. He said Girls Higher Secondary School Chah Syed Munawar, Government Degree College Paharpur, High School No. 2 Paharpur and High School Kulachi have been closed over the fears of spread of coronavirus. He said the district administration has decided to keep these educational institutions closed till further orders.

Dozens of educational institutions have been closed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and rest of the country since reopening on September 15. The educational institutions were closed over emergence of positive COVID-19 cases and violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Earlier on Saturday, 11 teachers in KP’s educational institutions tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the KP Health Department, two teachers of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar, one from Sarhad University Peshawar, and eight others from government higher secondary schools in Kohat, Charsadda and Upper Kurram tribal district. All the affected teachers have been asked to self-quarantine at their homes. Their educational institutions will remain open.

On September 17, 10 educational institutions were closed in KP over violation of SOPs.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), as many as 13 educational institutions were closed in Pakistan on Thursday, including 10 from KP and three from Sindh.

The KP Health Department said coronavirus cases have been reported from some educational institutions of the province after which it has recommended closure of these schools. Recommendation has been made to close some government schools in Peshawar, Tank and Upper Dir.
