DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A policeman was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday night.

Police said constable Imtiaz was coming home after his duty to protect the faithful during Taraveeh prayers in the night when unidentified armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured. The policeman succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Policemen reached the spot after the incident and cordoned off the area. A search operation was also launched in the area, but no reports of arrests were received.

The incidents of target killings and attacks on police have increased recently in Dera Ismail Khan. Policemen have been deployed for the security of mosques during Taraveeh prayers and also at imambargahs in DI Khan.

On 24 May, a policeman was killed and another was injured when their motorcycle squad came under attack from militants in the city.
