Soldier martyred, another injured in cross border attack in North Waziristan

PESHAWAR: One soldier was martyred and another sustained injuries in an attack on a security check post in North Waziristan tribal district by militants based in Afghanistan on Sunday.

Security sources said the militants from Afghan side targeted a check post in Gorbaz area of Shawal tehsil in the morning due to which Sepoy Niaz Ahmed embraced martyrdom and Naib Subedar Raees Khan sustained injuries.

The sources said the Pakistani troops effectively retaliated. However, no details were available about casualties from militants.

The body of the martyred soldier and injured soldier were taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar through helicopter.

On Saturday, two Army soldiers were martyred and six terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Spina Mela area of South Waziristan tribal district.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security forces conducted the successful operation in Spina Mela village near Ladha sub-division under Operation Raddul Fasad. It said the operation was launched on reports of presence terrorists who had entered the area morphed into returning temporarily displaced persons (TDPs).

A day earlier, a security personnel identified as Nakash Khattak was martyred in firing of terrorists from across the border in North Waziristan.
