PESHAWAR, 9 December: Nine people were killed in an attack by the Taliban militants on Kandahar Airport in Afghanistan on Tuesday night.
Taliban militants have claimed responsibility of the attack. The airport director said some passengers were also taken hostage during the fighting between the militants and security forces. He said it was unclear whether all the dead were soldiers or civilians. At least 20 people were also reportedly injured during the fighting.
The attack came at a time when Afghan president Ashraf Ghani was leaving for Pakistan to attend Heart of Asia Conference in Pakistan. The issue of talks between the Afghan government and Taliban is likely to be discussed during Mr Ghani’s visit to Pakistan.
