MIRANSHAH: Shahid Khan, a resident of Kabalkhel in North Waziristan tribal district was allegedly by local farmers after a goat owned by his family entered a field and ate crops in Girja area in the jurisdiction of Sadar police station in Rawalpindi a couple of days.
Eye witnesses said that a goat belonging to the cousins of Shahid, whose family recently migrated to Girja area in Rawalpindi, entered a field owned by Raja Khurram and grazed the crops. This infuriated Raja who abused the owner of the animal. As a result both sides exchanged harsh words which led Raja to open fire on the opposite group. Meanwhile Shahid intervened to calm down the situation, but received bullet in his body and died on the spot. Two other persons including a child were injured in the firing. Subsequently Raja Khurram and his accomplices fled the scene.
The members of Shahid family lodged First Investigation Report in Sadar Police Station against Khurram Raja and his associates.
Police said that they raided the house of accused and arrested his cousin Meeto as the accused was not present at home. They said that Meeto was being investigated in the case.
Meanwhile the dead body of Shahid was shifted to his native village in Shewa tehsil of North Waziristan where he was buried in his ancestral graveyard. Talking to locals, the father of deceased Sharukh Khan said that he had convened the Jirga of his tribal elders to devise a strategy for taking up the case at high level.
Earlier this year, Naqeebullah Mehsud hailing from South Waziristan Agency was killed in a fake police encounter in Karachi which enraged his fellows tribesmen and helped united Mehsud and Pashtun youth who condemned the killing and staged a sit-in in Islamabad against the act for few days. As a result of that protest, Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement( PTM) was created under the leadership of Manzoor Pashteen who is advocating for the rights of Pashtun across the country.
