ISLAMABAD, 26, October: Accountability court on Thursday issued bailable arrest warrants for ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif for failure to appear before the court in two corruption references.
The arrest warrant piled more pressure on his ruling party as it seeks a way forward ahead of next year’s general election.
The next hearing is scheduled for November 3, Nawaz lawyer Zafir Khan said.
The former prime minister has been facing corruption charges in offshore companies.
When the hearing commenced, his counsel argued that he was due to appear before the court after performing Umra in Saudi Arabia.
“Health condition of his wife worsened due to which he had to go to the London,” he argued.
The court warned the defence lawyer to ensure his appearance or else non-bailable arrest warrants would be issued on next hearing.
