PESHAWAR, 10 December: Afghan government has once again agreed for talks with the Taliban militants with the intermediary role of the United States and China.
Addressing a joint press conference with Adviser to the PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad on Wednesday, Afghan External Affairs Minister Salahuddin Rabbani said a meeting of the four countries’ representatives was held on the side lines of Heart of Asia Conference during which all the stakeholders assured Afghanistan to extend all kind of cooperation for peace in the war-torn country. Mr Rabbani said he is confident that Pakistan can play an important role in reconciliation process in Afghanistan.
A joint communique issued after the conference urged all the militant groups in Afghanistan to come on table of negotiations with the government. It said the trend of financial and other assistance with the Taliban will have to be stopped to ensure that they do not get fresh recruits.
