Afghanistan won’t join CPEC until it gets access to India: Ashraf Ghani

PESHAWAR, 26 October: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Thursday said Afghanistan will not become part of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) until Pakistan allows connectivity between Afghanistan and India.

According to media reports, Ashraf Ghani said while addressing a meeting in India that Afghanistan will not give access to Pakistan to Central Asian states if Pakistan denied access to Afghanistan to India through CPEC. He said Kabul has informed Islamabad about its intentions and it is up to Islamabad to decide about the matter. He said Afghanistan will react after Pakistan’s decision on the issue.

The statement of the Afghan president came few days after he banned entry of Pakistani goods trucks to Afghanistan. He ordered through a decree that the Pakistani trucks will require shifting the goods to Afghani trucks at Torkham border. Pakistani transporters condemned this step of the Afghan government. However, Pakistan is yet to respond to Afghan threat of blocking access to Central Asia.
