HARIPUR: The alleged killer of Haripur’s journalist Sohail Khan has been arrested on the Pak-Afghan Chaman border in Balochistan.
District Police Officer (DPO) Haripur Mansoor Aman said at a crowded press conference on Wednesday that the alleged killer was trying to escape to Afghanistan via Chaman border when he was arrested.
The DPO said police were continuously tracing him through his mobile phone and eventually arrested him. He said further investigation into the case is underway. He said further details about the case will emerge after interrogation from the arrested accused.
Sohail Khan was shot dead outside his home last week reportedly after publishing a report on drug trafficking. He had also informed the police about threat to his life, but no action was taken to protect him.
Eminent journalist Hamid Mir had informed about Sohail Khan’s death through a tweet and said he was fourth journalist killed in the line of duty in Pakistan this year. He killing also sparked protests by journalists in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
