PESHAWAR: Another doctor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa died of coronavirus on Wednesday.

Additional Director of Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital Bannu Dr Muhammad Farooq, who was under treatment at Peshawar’s North West Hospital, died of coronavirus. Provincial Doctors Association said Dr Farooq was shifted on ventilator after his condition deteriorated.

The doctors association said that 40 health workers, including 25 doctors, have succumbed to coronavirus but the government has not given any martyrs package to their families so far.

Dining in hotels, meetings with prisoners banned

Owing to sharp increase in corona cases, the KP government Wednesday banned dinning in hotels and restaurants and meetings of relatives and other people with prisoners.

According to a notification of the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, only takeaway and outdoor dinning services in hotels and restaurants would be allowed. The ban came into effect with immediate effect. The notification said strict action would be taken against violators of the ban.

A separate notification has also been issued by the Home Department about ban on meetings with prisoners.

Ban on indoor dining and meetings with prisoners were also banned during the first wave of coronavirus in KP. However, that ban was lifted after improvement in the situation. The second wave of corona in Pakistan is considered to be more dangerous than the first one. Therefore, the government is enhancing precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the disease.

Pakistan’s latest situation

According to latest update issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 75 more corona patients died in Pakistan during the last 24 hours.

The total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Wednesday were recorded at 49,780 as 2,829 more people tested positive for the deadly virus during the last 24 hours. As many as 345,365 people have recovered from corona so far across Pakistan making it a significant count with over 86 percent recovery ratio of the affected patients.

Since the pandemic outbreak, a total of 403,311 cases were detected, including 6,982 in AJK, 17,215 in Balochistan, 4,667 in GB, 30,748 in ICT, 47,701 in KP, 120,356 in Punjab and 175,642 Sindh.

A total of 5,584,635 corona tests have been conducted so far. A total 2,810 corona patients are admitted in hospitals across the country.
