PESHAWAR: Another doctor died of coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday after which the number of doctors dying from the disease in the province has reached 20.

Provincial Doctors Association said Associate Dean of Khyber College of Dentistry Dr Sultan Zeb has died of coronavirus. He was under treatment at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) Peshawar for the last few days. Sources said the doctor was on ventilator before his death. The Doctors Association paid tribute to Dr Sultan Zeb and said his services will be remembered for ever.

The Doctors Association said the provincial government has not released Shuhada package for healthcare practioners who lost their lives while battling coronavirus. It said 20 doctors have lost their lives due to coronavirus in KP.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan in a message has expressed grief and sorrow over the death of Dr Sultan Zeb and paid tribute to him for his services. He urged the citizens to ensure implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

Corona cases are witnessing a sharp increase after which the government has also started taking measures and citizens have been urged to observe precaution.

As many as 807 more COVID-19 cases surfaced in Pakistan during the last 24 hours after which the total number of corona infections in the country reached 332,423.

There are now 12,121 active corona cases in the country. On Friday, tests of 21,688 people were conducted and 807 out of them came back as positive. According to the latest statistics, 11 people died of COVID-19 during the last 24 hours. The figure of patients recovered from the virus has reached 314,066. Death toll from coronavirus in Pakistan stands at 6,800.

The total corona cases in KP stand at 39,458, Sindh has 145,475, Balochistan 15,887, Punjab 103,831, Gilgit-Baltistan 4,229 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir has 4,046 corona toll.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 97 more coronavirus cases surfaced during the last 24 hours. According to latest updates posted by the KP Health Department, the total tally on infections in KP has reached 39,458. One death was reported during the last 24 hours, after which the death toll increased to 1,277.

On Friday, 61 more patients recovered from the disease and now total recoveries stand at 37,524. Active cases in KP are 658.
