The funeral prayer of Dr Fahad was offered in his native village at 11:00am on Friday and he was laid to rest at the ancestral graveyard.

The death of Dr Fahad happened two days after the death of lady doctor Khaula Jabeen from the virus.

The YDA said earlier the husband of Dr Khaula Jabeen had also died of coronavirus. The YDA says the provincial government has not provided Shuhada Package to any deceased doctor’s family so far. Further details released by the YDA reveal that 1,160 doctors and 410 nurses have contracted coronavirus so far in KP while playing the role of frontline force against the pandemic. Four nurses have also died of corona in KP. As many as 1,150 members of paramedical staff and Class-IV employees working in different hospitals have also contracted coronavirus.

Doctors are at increased risk of contracting coronavirus as they come in contact with various infected persons in hospitals. Shortage of protective equipment at government hospitals make them even more vulnerable.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) said in a statement that 2020 was an unfortunate year not only for Pakistan but for the whole world due to pandemic of COVID-19.

It said the increasing burden of disease of the second wave in the community is proving to be more fatal for doctors. Till now 154 doctors have lost their lives due to COVID–19 in Pakistan. During the second wave which started from Nov, 45 doctors have lost their lives (Punjab-16, Sindh-14, KP-13, AJK-02). The PMA said the situation is very alarming.

The PMA demanded of the government to take effective measures including the deliverance of Shuhada Package for the welfare of families of the deceased doctors.
