CHITRAL: The disturbing trend of suicides among the youth of Chitral continues as another girl has ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.
Police said Safeena, a resident of Faizabad area, committed suicide on Monday due to unknown reasons. The body of the girl has been handed over to her family after post mortem at the District Headquarters Hospital. Local police said a case of the incident will be formally registered after initial investigations.
It was 20th incident of suicide in Chitral during the last three months. Most of the victims were girls. In the first week of this month, five students from Chitral committed suicide over poor results in the HSSC (Intermediate) exams.
A large number of youth have committed suicide in Chitral this year due to various reasons, but the government and non-government organizations have not taken any concrete measure to halt this alarming trend.
A centre was opened in Chitral to strop the trend of suicides. The centre works for curbing violence against women and children. Local women have been appointed in these centres in order to facilitate the people to register their complaints with the centre without any difficulty. However, this move has apparently failed to stop the youth from taking extreme steps.
