CHITRAL: Another girl committed suicide in Jaghor village of Chitral on Tuesday over a trivial issue.
The local people said 20-year-old Umme Salma, daughter of Aulad Hussain, arrived home a bit late from madrassa (religious seminary) due to which her mother admonished her. The girl, upset with the rebuke, consumed poisonous pills due to which she fainted. She was taken to a hospital, but she could not survive.
Police handed over the body of the girl to heirs after post mortem and she was buried in a local graveyard.
It was 24th incident of suicide in Chitral during the last seven months. Just three days ago, a youth committed suicide in Karimabad. Police had said the youth, Javed committed suicide by shooting himself down.
The local people have expressed deep concern over the alarming trend of suicides in Chitral. A centre has been opened in Chitral to stop the trend of suicides by curbing violence against women and children. Local women have been appointed in the centre in order to make it easier for local people to lodge complaints with the said centre. However, this experiment failed to produce any results and the frequent incidents of suicide have baffled to people.
The people have called upon the government send a team of experts to Chitral to determine the reasons behind this disturbing trend and suggest remedial measures.
