PESHAWAR: Another Famous Pashto artist and stage dancer Lubna, who was well known by her showbiz name Gulalai, was tortured to death in District Mardan within the jurisdiction of Chora Police Station. She left behind a two-month-old daughter and was laid to rest in Mardan on Friday.
Mardan Police claimed to have arrested two persons on the complaint of her sister Sabrina while the search for the third accused is underway. While registering FIR, Sabrina said that she has come back and was living at her home after having a brawl with her husband. She revealed that on February 15, three persons namely Fazli Malik, Nawab and Shah Hussain come to her house and after some discussion with Gulalai, She left with them saying, she wants to see her mother and will be back after some time.
Sabrina added that in the evening when she tried to call Gulalai to know about her whereabouts, She found her phones switched off. She further added she tried to make a phone call to Nawab, but for the next five days, he declined to attend the call. Sabrina told the police that after five days, she was informed that her sister tortured dead body was found in Mardan within the jurisdiction of Chora Police station.
District Police Officer (DPO), Mardan Sajjad Khan told Media that they have registered the FIR information report against Fazli Malik, Nawab, and Shah Hussain. Khan added they have already arrested Shah Hussain and Malik while the search for the third accused is underway.
For female dancers and musicians, their home is not always safe. During the last few years, a number of singers and dancers have been killed and tortured by their family members. In August, last year, a famed stage dancer Neelam Gul was tortured by her husband. On Aug 2, 2018, Pashto singer and stage actress Resham Khan was shot dead allegedly by her husband in the limits of Nowshera Kalan police station.
In recent years, Pashto music lost famous singer Ghazala Javed at the hands of her husband, who has since been freed by the court. Ayman Udas, another artist, was allegedly killed by her brothers over claims of dishonouring the family. Singer Rabia Tabasum was poisoned. The 18-year-old Pashto singer Karishma Shahzadi was allegedly killed after being injected with a spurious injection in 2014. In 2013, another 18-year-old actor Bushra suffered burns on her face when acid was flung on her in Nowshera. In February this year 2018, stage actor Sumbal had been shot in the Shaikh Maltoon area of Mardan.
In 2014, Pashto artiste Gulnaz, alias Muskan, was shot in Peshawar. Nazia Iqbal, a senior singer, appeared in a video online earlier this year asking her fans to help protect her daughter against harassment at the hands of her relatives.
