QUETTA, 16 May: Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan has said that they would never let anybody make changes in Pakistan-China Economic Corridor (PCEC) route even if it leads to portraying them as traitors.
He was talking to a multi-party conference convened by ANP here today to discuss purported changes in the Gwadar-Kashghar economic route. Pakistan People’s Party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and a number of nationalist parties of Balochistan turned up in the moot.
The ANP chief added that his party’s apprehensions over the changes in economic corridor were not properly addressed in the prime minister-convened All-Party Conference held in Islamabad a few days back.
“I am sure that the federal government has planned to exclude some areas of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhunkhwa from the economic corridor which would be replaced by the areas of Punjab,” the Pakhtun nationalist leader said, adding that the Punjab-dominated Centre is also intriguing to establish most of the economic zones in Punjab.
ANP wants all the political forces to join hand with us so that the battle for the rights of small federating units could be fought jointly otherwise we would continue our struggle separately, he added. “By diverting the economic route to Punjab all the economic activities would also shift to it. [To tackle this issue] leadership of all the political parties present here would make a consensus decision. ANP will not go solo. But if they refuse, I [ANP] will fight lonely [for the rights of small provinces].”
