Anti-Congo virus spray campaign launched in Quetta cattle markets

QUETTA, 24 August: The Veterinary Department and Metropolitan Corporation have launched a spray campaign at the cattle markets in Quetta to avoid the spread of Congo virus.

Quetta Mayor Dr Kaleemullah Kakar said during his visits to different cattle markets on Wednesday that the fumigation is being carried out to avoid spread of Congo virus in the sacrificial animals on the occasion of Eidul Azha.

“We have provided necessary funds and manpower for the fumigation campaign. Separate staff for the spray campaign is also available and we are providing them equipment,” Mr Kakar told TNN.

The spray campaign was launched in Quetta on the demand of cattle traders as several people died due to Congo virus last year. Congo fever is caused by ticks on the animals’ skin. If contracted, the disease has fatality ratio of up to 40 percent.
