PESHAWAR, 3 July: The Pakistan Army has been given special powers to provide security during the re-polling in 14 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the local bodies polls on 5 July.
KP Chief Secretary Amjid Ali Shah chaired a meeting in this regard on Thursday which was attended by Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Babar Yaqoob, provincial home secretary, Inspector General Police Nasir Khan Durrani, secretary local government and concerned commissioners and military officials. The meeting was told that the military personnel will be appointed in and outside the polling stations along with police on the polling day and they will have the powers of arresting anyone creating disturbance. The military will also have powers to act against government and private employees on genuine complaints.
Women supervisors will be appointed at women polling stations. The polling will continue from 8:00am till 7:00pm. The meeting was told that no irrelevant person will be allowed to enter the premises of the polling stations.
The provincial government has issued funds to concerned commissioners for arranging the polls.
