BANNU, 9 July: The artistes and local people in Bannu were annoyed with the district and provincial governments after ban on a musical show which was arranged in connection with Eid celebrations.

The artists staged a protest demonstration against the attitude of the district and provincial governments at the Bannu Press Club on Friday. The protesting artistes alleged that the provincial government was damaging the Pakhtun culture by banning musical shows. They said there was no ban on political rallies and gatherings, but the cultural shows were banned. They said they will not tolerate this discriminatory attitude.

The artistes said they had arranged the musical show in connection with Eid celebrations on their own expenses and the Culture Department had extended no cooperation in this regard. However, they said, all their efforts were sabotaged through the Saddar Police Station officials. They demanded removal of the deputy commissioner, district police officer and station house officer of Saddar Police Station.

A musician, Ahmed Faraz told TNN that investigation should be conducted into the expenditure in Bannu in the name of culture. He said the artistes of Bannu have not received any assistance from the Culture Department.

“No country in the world bans music. Music promotes peace and musicians are asset of the country. We want to spread happiness in the atmosphere of distress through our art. All our plans were sabotaged after they banned our show,” he said.

The district administration has not offered any comment on the issue.
