Asma’s ‘murderer’ confesses to killing little girl

MARDAN, 12 February: The man arrested in eight-year old Asma’s murder case has confessed to his crime before a local court here on Monday.

The accused, Muhammad Nabi, was produced before the court of Senior Civil Judge, Asim Riaz, where he recorded his statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and confessed to murdering and physically assaulting Asma.

The court after recording the confessional statement, sent the accused to the prison.

Earlier, the court had given 10-day physical custody of the accused to the police to complete investigation.

It merits recalling here that after lengthy investigations into the murder case of Asma, police had arrested the accused after his DNA was matched with the samples collected from the body of the victim girl.

The eight-year old girl went missing from her home on January 13 and a day later, her body was found from a sugarcane field near her house in Gujar Garhi area. Police had said that she was strangled. The forensic lab reports later suggested that the minor girl was also subjected to sexual assault.
