HARIPUR, September 19: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Haripur on Tuesday framed charge on 57 persons in the Mashal Khan lynching case.
The police produced the detained individuals before ATC judge Fazle Subhan in Haripur Prison. When the hearing started, the court was informed about the bail applications filed by 17 of the accused and indicted 57 of accused persons. However, the applications were dismissed. The hearing to commenced on Wednesday (today).
All those indicted in the case have pleaded not guilty. In April this year, a mob who were incited by rumours had attacked Mashal for allegedly committing blasphemy and sharing blasphemous contents online. Mashal who was a student of Mass Communication Department was beaten and shot dead.
A 13-member joint investigation team probed the lynching and compiled a report stating that group in AWKUM had incited a mob against the student on the pretext of blasphemy. It added that no proof was found that Mashal Khan had committed the crime.
