PESHAWAR, 21 May: A seminar to create awareness about the local bodies elections was organised at the University of Peshawar today.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Cell for FATA Studies and UoP organised the training seminar. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government Inayatullah, former chief justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Mian Ajmal, high-ranking government officials and students participated in the seminar.

Speakers on the occasion urged the masses to fully participate in the local bodies polls. Mr Inayatullah said the purpose behind the local bodies elections is to transfer powers to grassroots level in letter and spirit. He said under this system, people will themselves identify development projects in their areas.

“These elections are being held to empower the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The people of the province should actively participate in these polls. People will get right on their resources after electing 4,000 representatives for them. They will be empowered to do planning for uplift schemes according to their own priorities, Mr Inayatullah said.
