BISP and WFP enter 1000 days partnership to address malnutrition in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) was signed by Wood Food Program Executive Director to address malnutrition in the country under 1000 days partnership against malnutrition.

The chairperson Benazir Income support Programme – BISP Marvi Memon, WFP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Mr. David Kaatrud, WFP Pakistan Country Director Mr. Finbarr Curran and Deputy Country Director Ms. Katrien Ghoos and Political Agent- Khyber Capt. Khalid Mahmood accompanied the Executive Director to visit WFP project areas in Khyber Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (#FATA) and Thatta district of Sindh province.The Chief Minister Sindh, Honorable Murad Ali Shah lauded the World Food Programme for its programme initiatives especially to address nutrition issues in the province.

WFP Executive Director planted a tree and placed a bench, in country office Islamabad, in the memory of WFP colleagues who lost their lives serving the vulnerable people of the country.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi appreciated the role of the United Nations World Food Programme (#WFP) in Pakistan for being the leading humanitarian organization fighting hunger, providing food assistance, working with the communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to WFP’s Executive Director Mr. David Beasley, who was visiting Pakistan this week.
