Body of ‘encounter victim’ Naqeeb handed over to relatives after five days

WANA: The body of Naqeeb Mehsud, who was killed in police firing in Karachi, has been handed over to his family after five days.

Noor Rehman, a relative of Naqeeb Mehsud, alleged that Naqeeb was arrested by Karachi Police from a hotel on 3 January and he was killed in a fake encounter on 12 January. He said 27-year-old Naqeeb Mehsud shifted to Karachi after launch of military operation Rah-e-Nijat in South Waziristan in 2008. He was working in a steel mill there.

Karachi SSP Rao Anwar has said Naqeeb was associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP), but his relatives denied this allegation. They said Naqeeb had a passion for modelling. He had three children.

A campaign has also been initiated on the social media over the death of Naqeeb in Karachi and questions have been raised over the claim of SSP Rao Anwar. Several pictures of Naqeeb have been shared on the social media. One of his friends has shared his text messages in which Naqeeb wishes that his son becomes an Army officer. Naqeeb’s friend questions how such a person who wants to send his son to the Army can be a terrorist.

The funeral of Naqeeb will be held in his ancestral village in Makeen area of South Waziristan today (Thursday).
