PESHAWAR, 15 December: The National Book Foundation has arranged a three-day book and literature festival in Mardan in connection with the 80th foundation day of the district.

District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar, Deputy Commissioner Dr Imran, district administration officials, district police chief and other officials attended the function after its inauguration on Wednesday.

A debate competition on different topics including minorities role in the country’s development, role of media, police and lawyers in society will also be organised at the festival. Debates will also be organised between bureaucracy and local government representatives. Poetry, speech and essay writing competitions will also be organised.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Imran said knowledge and book reading are interconnected and this connection is at strongest point at present.

“We have organised the three-day literary and book festival on the occasion of 80th anniversary of Mardan district and all the book loving people have been invited to the event,” he said.

Mardan was given the status of district on 1 January 1937.
