PESHAWAR: The administration of Bus Rapid Transit Project (BRT) Peshawar has decided to keep the service shut temporarily for two days on ninth and 10th of Muharramul Haram (today and tomorrow) as part of security measures for Ashura.

The spokesman for TransPeshawar, the company running BRT Peshawar, said the service has been closed for two days as a temporary measure for security of citizens during Ashura. He said the service will be reopened for citizens on 11th Muharram, Monday.

The spokesman said BRT Peshawar is providing best travel facilities to the citizens of Peshawar and those who came from other areas. He said irrelevant persons will not be allowed to come on the track of BRT busses during ninth and 10th Muharram. He said the security of passengers and BRT service is a top priority which will be ensured.

The long awaited BRT Peshawar project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on August 13 after which a large number of people are travelling in these busses on daily basis. Apart from a couple of hitches, the service is running smoothly and majority of people using the service are praising it for being inexpensive and having facilities for people, particularly women passengers.

Peshawar has been declared among the highly sensitive districts from security perspective during Muharram. Since BRT is the largest project of Peshawar which affects tens of thousands of people, the administration considered it suitable to close it for two days to avoid any possible security issues.
