PESHAWAR: The Business community has expressed concern over the delay in announcement of relief to traders affected by Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit Project and asked the government to complete of Peshawar BRT project immediately to revive business and trade activities.
A delegation, comprising on representatives of the Sarahd chamber will hold a meeting with Chief Minister in next week to apprise him the business community reservations about the delay in completion of Peshawar BRT Project, relief to traders, heritage trail project along with other issues pertaining to property, professional and trade taxes.
Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Faiz Muhammad Faizi was addressing media after meeting with Peshawar District Nazim, Mohammad Asim Khan on Tuesday. Faiz Muhammad said that the provincial government is using delaying tactics in materialising its promises regarding tax-exemption and compensation to traders for business losses due to the launch of the BRT project.
Terming the imposition of professional, property taxes, and the issue of trade alliance by the administration of Town-III in Hayatabad Industrial Estates as ‘irrational’, he called the move was tantamount to harassment of the business community and asked for immediate its withdrawn.
The chamber president demanded the early completion Warsak and Jamrud link road and sought the SCCI representation in local government to ensure business community participation in the effective decision-making process.
He called for rationalization of taxes, imposed on corporation properties and determination of taxes on the basis of floor-wise. He hailed that anti-encroachment drive in the city, which should be continued on sustainable grounds. He also demanded the replacement of rusted water pipeline in the provincial capital.
Later, speaking on the occasion, District Nazim Asim Khan assured that they will take all possible steps to address grievances of the business community and extend full cooperation to facilitate them.
On the occasion, Town Nazim-I Zahid Nadeem, Chief Coordinator, FPCCI Regional Office Peshawar Haji Mohammad Afzal, Javed Akhtar and trader’s leaders were also speaking on the occasion and expressed reservations over delay in BRT project and demanding of the government to extend maximum relief to the business community.
