MINGORA, April 24: By-election in the provincial assembly constituency PK-86, Swat district, are being held today.

TNN correspondent says six candidates are in the run. However, political analysts say a tough competition is expected between Dr Haider Ali of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Sardar Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, there are more than 1,34,000 registered voters in the area and 87 polling stations have been established for the balloting.

Personnel of the army and other security forces have been deployed in the area to provide security, while the district administration has announced public holiday today.

In the May 2013 general elections, PML-N’s Qaimus Khan had won the PK-86 seat, but the election commission later disqualified him over fake degree.
