PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday announced that by-elections on the national and provincial assembly seats will be held on 14 October.

By-elections will take place on 11 National Assembly and 19 provincial assembly seats lying vacant. Elections were postponed on some seats due to death of contesting candidates, while some seats have also been vacated by the candidates who won on more than one seat.

According to the ECP schedule, the returning officers of the concerned constituencies will publish public notices in this regard on 27 August. Nomination papers for the by-elections can be submitted from 28 to 30 August. An initial list of the candidates will be published on 31 August. Review of the nomination papers filed with the ECP will be conducted until 4 September. Another list of candidates will be published on 14 September following the review. Candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations till 15 September. The final list of the candidates will be released on 16 September.

On Thursday, the ECP had announced that the presidential election will be held on 4 September.
