PESHAWAR: Polling ended at 5pm on Sunday for by-elections held on PK-71 Peshawar that had fallen vacandt after Shah Farman was appointed as governor. Strict security arrangements were taken to avoid untoward incident.
Besides, polling also held on PS111 Karachi and NA-247 Karachi that were left vacant by President Arif Alvi and Governor Sindh Imran Ismail. According to ECP, there are total of 858,866 male and female registered voters to cast their ballots in today’s by-polls for the National Assembly and provincial assemblies constituency.
On PK-71, five candidates were in the running for by-polls for which polling was held at 86 polling stations where a total of 133,461 registered voters including 79,846 men and 53,615 women were supposed to caste their vote.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has set up 307 polling booths, including 118 for men and 119 for women voters. Main contesters are PTI candidate Zulfiqar Khan and ANP’s Salahuddin along with three independent candidates including Dildar Khan, Abdul Kareem Khan and Fazle Haq Kohe Damani.
Shah Farman had contested on two seats, PK-71 and PK-74. He had lost on PK-74, but won PK-71 and later left it vacant after he was appointed as governor.
