Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar said on Saturday that Rs245 billion have been allocated in the federal budget for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of FATA and additional Rs42 billion have been earmarked for development schemes in the tribal areas. Addressing the National Assembly, the minister said Rs100 billion have been spent so far on the displaced people.
According to an official of the political administration, some children from the Saidgai tribe were playing with a toy bomb near the bank of River Tochi when all of sudden the bomb went off. Unknown armed men shot dead a polio worker in Jamrud area of Khyber Agency on Wednesday. The political administration said polio worker Fazal Ameen was administering polio drops to children in Ghundi Sikandarkhel area in the morning when unknown armed men opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to Jamrud Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The political administration of Khyber Agency has distributed 90,000 mosquito nets in the area to control the spread of malaria, dengue fever and Leishmaniasis. Fog spray has also been conducted in the whole tribal region for the last one and a half months. Jamrud Malaria Superintendent Siddique said many people suffered from malaria, dengue fever and Leishmaniasis few months ago after which the political administration and Health Department distributed 130,000 mosquito kits in Khyber Agency in March-April.
