Lawyers’ strike against Nihal Hashmi’s outburst affects litigants

Legal fraternity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday observed strike and boycotted courts’ proceedings as a protest against the outburst of PML-N leader Nihal Hashmi against judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The call of the strike was given by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council. However, some of the lawyers also opposed the strike call and said that lawyers’ leadership should also take into consideration the problems of the litigants before announcing any boycott.

The Peshawar High Court has suspended the orders of district education department of Lower Dir regarding extended duties of security guards. After the militants attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsada earlier this year, the education department of certain districts had made it mandatory for the security guards to perform round the clock duties. The authorities had also asked the watchmen to arrange weapons for their own.
