National Assembly starts debate on Fata reforms

The National Assembly on Wednesday started general debate on Fata Reforms. Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions (Safron) Abdul Qadir Baloch said efforts have been started to merge Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as per the aspirations of the people of the tribal areas and the political leadership. He however said the integration process would be completed only after the achievement of certain goals set by the government.

Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi to install 100 fridges for poor people in summer

Owner of Peshawar Zalmi team in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Javed Afridi has announced to install 100 fridges in different parts of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA, for poor people. Talking to TNN, Javed Afridi said he has decided to go ahead with this plan under the ‘Fix It’ campaign of eminent social worker Alamgir Khan from Karachi. Alamgir Khan under his campaign brings issues of public importance into the notice of the government.

Sri Lanka to send cricket team for T20 in September

Sri Lankan Cricket Board to send its cricket team to Pakistan after a terrorist attack on its team in Lahore eight years ago that had brought almost all national games to complete standstill. The announcement was made by Sri Lankan Cricket Chief Thilanga Sumathipala who said that Sri Lankan team would play three Twenty 20 matches with one in Lahore. However, the tour would need government approval before sending the team abroad.

Two-thirds of people in FATA live in multidimensional poverty, says report

According to the report, nearly 39 percent of Pakistanis live in multidimensional poverty, with the highest rates of poverty in FATA and Balochistan. Pakistan’s MPI showed a strong decline, with national poverty rates falling from 55% to 39% from 2004 to 2015. However progress across different regions of Pakistan is uneven. Poverty in urban areas is 9.3 percent as compared to 54.6 percent in rural areas. Disparities also exist across provinces
